Our Typography4 competitions are still open for entries worldwide. Now’s your chance to enter your typeface designs or your typographic designs. Above and below are some examples from the United Kingdom and Germany!
A recent Gold winner from our 2018 Poster Annual by design teams Freytag Anderson and Warriors Studio, the above left poster was designed for the international event Graphic Design Festival Scotland. The festival organization collaborates with different agencies to create a visually progressive identity every year to further creative expression and experimentation.
The typeface to the right was designed by Hendrik Weber for KMS Team GmbH of Germany, and to our Type4: Typeface Design competition, titled “»East meets West« – JINS NEXT Typeface,” for JINS, Japan’s leading eyeglass manufacturer, who wanted to revamp their brand identity for an international expansion. Utilizing German-Swiss graphic design, Weber was able to create a typeface that made both Latin and Japanese characters look seamless.
Long-time Graphis contributors KMS TEAM GmbH also developed a new typeface for ŠKODA, a Czech car manufacturer, whose brand slogan is “Driven by Inventiveness – Clever Ideas since 1895,” and submitted to our current Typeface contest. In keeping up with the car company’s constant redesign over 120 years, the company cleverly used Czech cubism and Bohemian crystal to innovate ŠKODA’s corporate brand in the future to come.
Lastly, Stuart Radford and Marc Spicer of The Partners in the United Kingdom created a typography design for their clients the London Symphony Orchestra, Edward Appleyard, and Karen Cardy. A Gold Award Winner in Design Annual 2018, the design “Collectively, the animated films and subsequent stills form a visual language for the 2017/18 season that both depict the conductor’s movements as he creates and shapes a musical performance, and reflect the emotional power of the performance itself through colour, texture and motion.”
