Type: Fermin Guerrero, Marcos Minini & more from South America

The typeface design above (left) was entered to our current Typeface Design competition by Fermin Guerrero of Typotheque in Carmelo, Colonia, Uruguay. Titled “Thesaurus,” the typeface was “inspired by the typefaces used by French printer, editor and publisher Henri II Estienne in his famous book Thesaurus Græcæ Linguæ, published in Geneva in 1572” and “binds together special features and rare characteristics that we find in the original metal types used by Estienne, with more contemporary characteristics such as a big x-high, narrower forms and increased modulation. “

The typographic poster beside it (right) won a Gold Award in Poster Annual 2018. Submitted by Marcos Minini in Curitiba, Brazil, it was designed for Estudio Delirio to promote a comical play in which “Shakespeare presents himself as a braggart in love with parties and beer, at the same time as he gives himself to the word, art and delights of life.”

The Gold Award-winning poster above (left) was designed by Thiago Lacaz of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for client Quintavant/ Audio Rebel. The posters were “designed collaboratively, based on the “do it yourself” motto and try to reflect and help form the image of a new generation of Brazilian artists in tune with the concept of the event.” The typeface beside it was designed by Jorge Cisterna of Latinotype in Santiago, Chile. Titled “Queulat,” the typeface “combines different styles, reflecting charm, freshness and, especially, a strong personality.”
