The Walker Museum Celebrates Minnesota Design

AIGA is paying tribute to Minnesota’s design legacy in a two-part Insights Lecture Series event, Minnesota Design, A Celebration. The event is on March 3, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the Walker Cinema in Minneapolis. The evening will highlight a presentation by Andrew Blauvelt, the Walker Art Center senior curator of design, who will delve into the Walker’s new virtual Minnesota design collection.

Following the presentation is the opening of MGDA/AIGA Minnesota: A History Exhibit that outlines the legacy of the AIGA Minnesota chapter in celebration of AIGA’s 100th anniversary, curated by Kolean Pitner and Mike Haug. Charles S. Anderson will be honored for his 2014 AIGA Medal. The event will conclude with a post-lecture reception at the Garden Café. If you are unable to attend, watch it live online or host a Viewing Party

Andrew Blauvelt is a curator at the Walker Art Center in MinneapolisMinnesota. He oversees the Architecture and Design departments and is chief of communications and audience engagement. Prior to his tenure at the Walker, Blauvelt taught the practice and theory of design in several graduate programs including North Carolina State University, Cranbrook Academy of Art and the Jan van Eyck Academie in the Netherlands. His work has received numerous awards and has been exhibited in North America, Europe and Asia. 

Designers and Advertising Agencies from Minnesota that have contributed to Graphis include Carmichael Lynch, Fallon McElligott, Rice (In Issue 309), FAME,Brad Norr, Michael Hall, Mike Caguin of Colle + McVoy, Kate Arends, Alan Colvin of Cue, Paul Sieka, Nathan Hinz, David Schwen, Clarity Coverdale Fury, Duffy & Partners, Bruce Edwards, KNOCK Inc. and Scott Thares. Graphis Advertising Master Pat Fallon, too, hails from Minnesota.
