We’re excited to announce the opening of the New Talent 2020 Competition!
As we open the next New Talent competition, we thought we’d take a look at some of the 2019 Platinum & Silver winning works in the Advertising category by top-notch Professors and their students. School of Visual Arts Professor Frank Anselmo guided his students Huiwen Ong and Yuran Won for their Platinum-winning piece, “Netflix Binge On” (ABOVE RIGHT). It is memorable and funny, and works well with the established Netflix brand. Another Platinum winner was student Chase Harris (Professor unattributed) for his campaign, “McDonald’s—Hold Onto Happiness” (ABOVE LEFT). Along with the entry, he explained his approach as such: “The “Hold onto Happiness” campaign aims to help adults remember the simple joys of life by turning everyday objects into the iconic Happy Meal—representative of the uninhibited joy you felt as a child when you were handed that smiling red box.”
Two other Gold-winning campaigns show the standard at which Professors and Students are working. From Syracuse University, The Newhouse School, “Experts in Indulgence” (ABOVE LEFT) was overseen by Professors Mel White & Kevin O’Neill. Student Emma Bhayani placed Ferrero Rocher chocolates on famous fine art paintings to evoke her tagline and overall concept. Another Gold winner was “The Stain We Can’t Wash” by Lorenzo Della Giovanna under the supervision of Professor Zorayma Guevara at Miami Ad School. This campaign used the detergent brand to discuss an unsightly “stain” on history – The Rwandan genocide. This advertising campaign was well-executed and serves a political and promotional purpose.
