Meet the Sky’s New Maverick: The Jetson ONE

The Jetson ONE, crafted by the ambitious team at Jetson, redefines personal flight with its pioneering design. Echoing the revolutionary impact of the Ford Model-T, this electric aerial vehicle blends the thrill of a dune buggy with the technology of a drone, making pilotless flight accessible to the masses. Its lightweight structure and intuitive flight system encapsulate the founders’ vision of making everyone a pilot, promising a new epoch in personal transportation where the sky’s the limit.

Jetson describes its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicle as “a Formula 1 racing car for the sky.” And it may well be a travel trendsetter in much the same vein as the pioneering Ford Model-T car. The lack of a pilot’s license requirement and its comparatively low cost certainly indicate that the Jetson ONE has the chance to usher in personalized air travel for the masses!

The appearance of the Jetson ONE certainly conveys an air of excitement. Who can look at something that appears to be a dune buggy crossed with a giant drone and fail to feel the urge to take it for a spin? Some may grapple with the fear of controlling a vehicle while taking to the air for, likely, the first time, but the Jetson ONE’s safety features are more than enough to reassure all but the most anxious of individuals. These features include the race car-inspired spaceframe safety cell design, the ability to fly with the loss of a motor, the handsfree hover and emergency functions, the redundant battery propulsion system, the rapidly deploying ballistic parachute, and the lidar sensor-driven auto landing system.

In addition to its aerodynamic design and numerous safety features, another major benefit of the Jetson ONE is its flight computer. Thanks to this computer, handling the Jetson ONE is so easy that anyone can learn to pilot the vehicle in under five minutes. This astonishing fact highlights why the Jetson ONE has the potential to revolutionize travel.

The usage of aluminum and carbon fiber for the Jetson ONE’s primary building materials has resulted in a vehicle that is shockingly light. It weighs just 190 lbs, meaning that its eight motors needn’t struggle to remain airborne.

The Jetson ONE is already a highly successful craft, with demand being so high that, at the time of writing, Jetson is only able to supply new orders of the product in 2024. This news bodes incredibly well for a company that was only founded in 2017. Few other companies can boast of such a warm reception for its initial commercial product.

The rapidity with which Jetson has brought its first product to market indicates that there’s so much more to come. At present, some may balk at the fact that the Jetson ONE is a one-seater vehicle and has a limited flight time of approximately 20 minutes. But just imagine what the Jetson TWO, or whatever it is eventually named, will offer!

Tomasz Patan and Peter Ternström founded Jetson in 2017, intending to make everyone into a pilot by creating safe, personal electric aerial vehicles. Over the following years, the company focused on realizing this vision by designing, testing, and reworking the concept for what would become the Jetson ONE, the company’s first commercial product. The prototype model, named the Jetson Aero Speeder, flew successfully in 2018. The Jetson ONE was officially launched in late 2021.
