Design Annual 2016 Spotlight Submissions: New York City

Designer: Kyle Wessel | Client: Diageo | Design Firm: Raison Pure NYC

Raison Pure NYC’s recent packaging designs have graced the Design Annual 2016 competition. The industrial, yet elegant bottle branding of their Mortlach entry (image below), flaunts a color-palette that is reminiscent of Speyside’s natural and manmade landscape.

It alludes to trestle bridges, with “geometric bases and tapering silhouettes to give the impression of looking upwards,” they write in their Graphis portfolio. “Metal highlights on the caps, on the base of the 18 year-old variant, and girding on the sides of the 25 year-old expression speak to the brand’s longstanding modernity and precision, creating a consistent look and feel but successfully differentiating the variants and communicating the different price points.”

The team’s second entry, Jeremiah Weed, is an exquisite packaging project that they describe as a “paradigm-shifting project” that challenged what whiskey was perceived to be. they targeted a more social positioning, advertising the drink as a whiskey for sharing with friends who successfully disrupt the mundane with “curiosity, whimsy and craft.”

Raison Pure was founded in Paris in 1987. Eleven years later, their New York office was inaugurated under founding partner Laurent Hainaut. With more than 24 years of experience in branding, packaging and merchandising, the team of emerging artists and designers have gained increasing prestige for their high quality work and beautiful aesthetics.
