3D printing might be the next revolution in technology, but Hoon-Dong Chung created the 3D Type Exhibition (above left image) in 2D. The poster, a recent submission to the Design Annual 2016 competition, was designed for an experimental project ‘Unstable Unity’ and uses the 3D type in conceptual aspects. The project continuously focuses on transforming 2D types into 3D environment.

Chung currently resides in South Korea and is an assistant professor in Dankook University with a Ph. D in Design. He is one of the Graphis Design Masters with two Platinums and six Golds. His 3D winning work include ‘3D Type Exhibition‘ in the Design Annual 2015 and ‘3D Typography Exhibition‘ in the Design Annual 2013. Both of these won Gold. His ‘Unity is Flexible’ poster (above right) was a highlight in our Design Annual 2014.

The Graphis Design Competition features some of the most compelling and influential design of the year from across the world. Gold and Platinum awards, along with winning entries, will be published in the Design Annual 2016. Submit your work to the competition here.
