The latest entry for the New Talent Annual 2020 comes from the Kendall College of Art and Design at Ferris State University, in Michigan. For her entry, student Dee Derusha created a five-part series for a potential print ad campaign. Entitled “Sick of It,” Derusha highlights the negative aspects of being in your 20s and the social situations people try to avoid on a daily basis. The first image in the series displays the text, ‘Hangovers get worse after 25,’ featured above. Derusha’s approach to the project is both creative and playful, forming relatable messages out of alphabet soup. With the concept of soup being the go-to remedy when we’re sick, Derusha focused on social situations people are generally sick of, while having soup as the medium for the project. Her entry for the New Talent Annual 2020 is both lighthearted and memorable, with its imaginative design.
Another entry comes from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, in Pennsylvania. Student Kristin Hinkley created the branding and design for an anti-litter initiative, with the support of Instructor Kelly Holohan. For her newest entry, Hinkley joined the social effort to inspire Philadelphians to help keep their streets clean. Entitled “#BanishPHLth” (above), the project aims to change the current narrative on civic pride. The content for #BanishPHLth was directly inspired by Philly’s unique cultural heritage and linguistic quirks. The bold and brash typographic messages allude to the city’s historic, athletic, and political culture. The color palette also takes influence from Philly’s historic roots, while utilizing a contemporary tone. With her entry for the New Talent Annual 2020, Hinkley hopes to gather support and inspire change for Philadelphia to become one of America’s cleanest cities once again.
