M.AD School of Ideas student Reagan Williams’ New Talent award-winning project “Luminous Passage” is a conceptual installation that envisions spiral glass loops rising from Montana’s untouched fields. The ambitious proposal demonstrates how interwoven structures could capture and refract light, creating a dynamic interplay of color that shifts with visitor movement. Drawing from her multidisciplinary background, Reagan’s project imagines how environmental art can transform space while inviting contemplation.

“Luminous Passage” is an installation that reflects life’s dynamic, evolving journey. Inspired by my appreciation for vibrant colors and fluid forms, the structure features spiraled loops, each representing a key stage of existence: birth, childhood, adulthood, and legacy. These loops flow seamlessly into one another, symbolizing life’s interconnected and cyclical nature.
The installation is constructed from glass, chosen for its unique ability to interact with light. As visitors move through the space, the glass refracts light into vibrant reflections, casting dynamic colors onto their surroundings. This interplay of light and color represents how life’s experiences—both external and internal—shape and illuminate our personal journeys.
Set within an open, untouched field in Montana, the location is a natural metaphor for a blank canvas. The serene environment invites visitors to pause, reflect, and engage with the installation meaningfully. Surrounded by vast, unspoiled nature, individuals are encouraged to contemplate their own paths, aspirations, and the stages of their lives.
More than a work of art, “Luminous Passage” invites introspection. It encourages visitors to consider their growth, transitions, and the wisdom they carry forward. Through its thoughtful design, vibrant colors, and reflective materials, the installation serves as a reminder that life is an ever-evolving passage—a continuous journey of experiences and transformation.
