Google Canada hosted an event called YouTube Pulse, aimed at Toronto-based Media Buyers and Creative Directors to highlight the advantages of YouTube advertising over traditional platforms. In collaboration with Google Canada’s Marketing Team, Underline envisioned a “visual approach that would portray the personality behind the personas of some of YouTube’s top creators,” they wrote on their Graphis portfolio. It’s sleek, minimalist imagery made it a top entry in the Design Annual 2016 competition.

Working with photographer Michael Graydon and stylist Nikole Herriott, and developing a custom typeface for the event materials Underline created a entire visual language that “challenges the conventional notions of YouTube programming and content.” The event was a success, with media buyers and creative directors in Toronto and other cities requesting copies of the books.

Underline Studio is an award-winning studio based in Canada. This year, Underline’s founding partners Claire Dawson and Fidel Peña celebrate their 10th anniversary with the studio, with a wide range of global projects in brand, corporate and marketing communications. Zulu Alpha Kilo is another Canada-based design firm with a submission to the Design Annual 2016 competition. Their Elvis Festival, a series of posters and print ads featuring classic Elvis recordings shaped into the subject matter of each song, is a fitting campaign for the biggest Elvis Festival in the world, Collingwood, Canada.
