The latest entry for the New Talent Annual 2020 comes from Jiayi Lin from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. With the support of Instructor Mel White, Lin submits the ad campaign “GoPro” (above). The series includes three images of a GoPro taking the form of land-roaming transport such as a hot air balloon, a helicopter, and a submarine. Lin establishes what the GoPro is capable of with little to no words. Centering the theme around adventure, Lin presents several ways the GoPro can be used. Jiayi Lin creatively utilizes the shape of the GoPro and effectively blends it into an original idea.
Student Danny Carlon from the Chicago Portfolio School submits his entry “(Fur)niture” (above), a billboard for Scotch-Bright Lint Rollers. The billboard display directly takes the ‘Fur’ out of ‘Furniture’ to demonstrate how powerful the product is. The bold green catches the viewer’s attention, and the missing letters are an interesting way to get viewers to figure out what the roller can do. Carlon also uses the fur texture to illustrate the use and purpose of the lint roller. Danny Carlon designs a billboard that is clear and concise, successfully getting the message across.
