Peter and Jan are the dynamic duo that make up Graphis Master design firm Cummings & Good, which was recently featured in Graphis Journal Issue #361. Whether designing posters for the Manchester String Quartet (which they’ve done for 30 years) or implementing Jan’s illustrations into various campaigns, they are hard working and passionate about their craft. A partnership in life and work, Peter and Jan have offered beauty and big ideas for decades.
Here’s a sneak peak at Cummings & Good’s insightful Q&A:
What is your work philosophy?
Peter Good: Research, play, experiment, discover, craft, produce.
Janet Cummings-Good: Understand the problem, do the best you can in the time you have, trust your instincts.
What part of your work do you find most demanding?
JCG: Multitasking. I find it difficult to switch from one need to another. If left alone, I will work on a project for hours forgetting the time of day (or night!) along with any physical needs. The upside is that once engaged, I can happily focus on anything, including invoicing and bookkeeping.
What satisfies you the most in your work?
PG: Crafting meaningful solutions.
JCG: Being surprised by the ultimate solution.
