Each year, the Komori Corporation doesn’t just print a calendar — it crafts a collector’s item. For 2024, the calendar “FUSION: Nature & Technology” earned a Gold Award in the Graphis Design Awards for its inspiring blend of visual storytelling and technical mastery.

At the helm of the project was Masahiro Aoyagi, designer and art director at TOPPAN INC., who envisioned a tactile, immersive experience where technology enhances, rather than overshadows, the natural world. Masahiro selected Australian photographic illustrator Josh Dykgraaf—known for transforming landscapes into animal motifs with meticulous, almost sculptural precision—to bring the concept to life.

From a glacier-forged elephant to a turtle built from aerial island topography, Josh’s surreal compositions capture the grandeur of nature reimagined through digital art. A red panda constructed from autumn leaves and a leafy-feathered bird perched in serene detail blur the line between flora and fauna in ways that feel both dreamlike and deliberate.

The print execution matches the ambition. Under the guidance of print designer Riichi Yamaguchi, the calendar uses gloss, matte, and emboss varnishes to add depth and texture to each page. The header is silk over offset, and the Komori logo appears in luminescent ink—proof that no detail was overlooked.

The result? A calendar that transcends its function and becomes a gallery-worthy expression of what happens when nature and technology are treated as creative partners.
