Great food photography is more than just capturing the finished product of a unique recipe. It requires that the food be carefully placed, well lit and appetizing. Like our two features today, many shots are taken from an “above the table” perspective, which allows for the placement of other essential items on the table such as silverware, herbs or flowers. Together, the elements compose a mood for the food to rest in, like a rustic farmhouse vibe or a modern all-white plate to showcase gastronomy’s finest.
Canadian Photographer Andrew Grinton and his Food Stylist Noah Witenoff created “Soup Story” (ABOVE) which is meant to “highlight the change of seasons from summer to fall with a series of colourful soups paired with seafood.” Each bowl is bright and enticing, and showcases its crustaceous main ingredient. The charcoal colored background lays the foundation for pops of color and small details like strewn sea salt.
