The inspiration for the Kabum! Mix project came from a workshop that was developed a number of years ago by the renowned French designer Alain Le Quernec. Felipe Taborda adapted the fundamental ideas behind the workshop and implemented Kabum! Mix at various art and technology schools in Brazil. Students enrolled at these schools then have the opportunity to become familiar with new design technologies, while learning the basics of graphic design, computer science, film-making, and photography. Thus far, there have been two editions of the program. In each, students worked side-by-side with both school staff and local graphic designers to develop posters to comment on various social topics, such as teenage pregnancy, human rights, water conservation, AIDS, the future, and love.
This unique collection from the Kabum! Mix project is being presented at the Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan. The exhibit features twenty posters from the Kabum! Mix workshop as well as eighty posters designed by the creator of the project, Felipe Taborda.
Felipe Taborda is a graphic designer from Rio de Janeiro, who works primarily within the cultural, publishing, and recording areas. He graduated from Rio’s Catholic University. Then, he went on to study Cinema and Photography at the London International Film School, Communication Arts at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), and Graphic Design at the School of Visual Arts (SVA).
