For the New Talent Annual 2019, professors Mel White & Kevin O’Neill from The Newhouse School at Syracuse University win Gold for their entry. Entitled “Here, have a Kleenex” (above), the three-part series utilizes three different natural environments to advertise the product without depicting it directly. The creative approach blends nature with the human feelings of sneezing, blowing your nose, and crying. Featured in the series are a geyser, volcano and a leaf with dew. Their Gold-winning entry displays effective advertising with a simple design.
The latest entry for the New Talent Annual 2020 comes from student Amanda Wennberg at the Academy of Art University. Entitled “Think Inside the Box” (above), the video focuses on news literacy and the issues facing the nation today, with the growth of the digital landscape. The project aims to create awareness by challenging the viewer’s worldview, through the lens of the Times boxes. Numerous billboards are also featured in the video to emphasize relevant issues. This entry explores significant issues by utilizing a modern perspective on how we process news.
