Introduction by Christian Raith Managing Director, Erpam GMBH
I have been working with Felix Holzer for many years. It started when I was a model and was photographed by him, and I had so much fun at the shoot that I asked him to take on our company as a client. He responds extremely well to his counterpart and gets the best out of him. His friendly and funny manner creates a special flair on set so that the corresponding result is also unique. I am sure we will be going down the same path with Felix for many years to come.
What inspired you to have a career in photography?
I love discovering the world playfully with curious eyes and an alert mind. The world is full of wonders. You, me, we are all unique, each in our own way. Especially in my travels; for example, the beauty of the Seychelles and the magic of Cambodia have overwhelmed me. I look forward every morning to getting up and seeing what there is to discover today. I feel it is a gift to live on this earth. Through photography, I can create my own world. This motivates and inspires me through and through.
What is your work philosophy?
Dream big, believe in yourself, and just do it.
Who is or was your greatest mentor?
Unfortunately, I never had a great mentor, although I would have liked that very much. Instead of a mentor, I looked for a personality as a role model. By far, the person who has inspired me the most in my life is Leonardo da Vinci. I have always admired his drawings, paintings, and ingenious inventions. If there were a time machine, I would travel back in time and visit him.
What is it about photography that you are most passionate about?
Since my childhood, I have creatively engaged with the world and life. Photography is the language I have found for myself.
What is the most difficult challenge you’ve overcome to reach your current position?
For me, there is no one difficult challenge. You have to take many steps, learn to listen to your inner voice, believe in yourself, and courageously go your own way. This has taught me to overcome many challenges and tests.
Who were some of your greatest past influences?
I was particularly inspired and influenced by artists such as Gerhard Richter, Salvador Dalí, Niki de Saint Phalle, Richard Avedon, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Virgil Abloh, Karl Lagerfeld, Philippe Starck, and Takashi Murakami.
Who among your contemporaries do you admire the most?
Howard Schatz, Nick Knight, Walter Schels, Albert Watson, and David LaChapelle.
What would be your dream assignment?
My dream assignment would be a cutting-edge artistic collaboration with a global brand like Louis Vuitton.
Who have been some of your favorite people or clients you have worked with?
I like working with highly motivated talents with big visions and seeing things come to life that is bigger than we ever dreamed. My great collaboration with art buyers and creative directors from the Serviceplan Group and the BMW Group are good examples.
What are the most important ingredients you require from a client to do successful work?
In collaborations, the customer’s brand and the Felix Holzer brand should fit together well. For me, personal appreciation, clear agreements, and good organization are the basic requirements for every collaborative project.
