Graphis would like to pay tribute to the renowned photographer Rodney Smith, who passed away on December 5, 2016. Born on December 24, 1947 in Manhattan, Smith was revered for his portraits as well as his fashion photography, and was also a winner in Graphis Photography Annuals. The above entry won a Platinum Award in the Graphis 2004 Photography Annual Competition. See below for more of his work.
Throughout his decades-long career, Mr. Smith shot for clients like Neiman Marcus, Mirabella, Saks Fifth Avenue, Marshall Field’s, and W magazine. Above are two photographs shot by Smith from the Photography Archives. The fashion photograph on the left won a Silver Award in the 2004 Photography Annual Competition and the portrait (right) won a Gold Award in the 2005 Photography Annual Competition.
Rodney Smith is survived by his second wife, Leslie Smolan; his children, Savannah and Jonah; his sister Marianne Harrison; and two grandsons.
