At the start of every new year, it is custom to look back and reflect on what has passed. Following this tradition, photography expert W. M. Hunt and VII Photo present Ten From Twenty Ten, which features 10 images from the photo agency’s archive.
“I looked back, searching for the unexpected,” Hunt writes. “The photographs I chose do not begin to represent all the places or the events of 2010, they are simply good pictures, individually informative or surprising and collectively offering a distinctive view of the world away from the traditional editorial imperative. They each have something special in them.”
The inspiration for the exhibit comes from ex-President George Bush’s statement in his recent memoir, Decision Points, about how he gets “a sickening feeling” everytime he thinks about his failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
“The anticipation of viewing a wave of new reportage can be accompanied by real dread. What fresh hell have these photographers dragged themselves to, and what is their report? We know how inured we are to horror, that fatigue or guardedness that settles in even before we see the work.”
