New Talent: Platinum Work by Pauline Capote of Academy of Art University & Gold Work by Rachel Jisun Kim of School of Visual Arts

Winners in the Design category of New Talent Annual 2019 show signs of promise for the future.

Whether designing for print or digital platforms, the next generation of designers will be ready to rise to the occasion. One such example is Platinum-winner Pauline Capote under the direction of Academy of Art University professor Eszter Clark. She was tasked with creating a set of brochures that were visually stunning and represented a company properly. Her design, “Herman Miller” (ABOVE) accomplished this directive while also paying tribute to all the designers who made the furniture brand what it is today. As Pauline related to us, “The brochure highlights the work of Alexander Girard, George Nelson, and Charles and Ray Eames in an abstract way to single out the simply beautiful qualities of their work.”

One of our Gold winners, Rachel Jisun Kim created “MONO,” a full branding campaign for print and digital platforms. Working with Professors Kenneth Deegan & Brankica Harvey at the School of Visual Arts, her design made use of a minimalistic esthetic and monochromatic colors. The designs are practical and elegant, showing her ability to thrive as a distinctive designer in the future. These, and many of our other winners in New Talent Annual 2019, are inspiring reminders of the fresh talent being produced in the country’s leading design schools.
